Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full time Senior Transportation Planner position in our Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Miami or Bonifay, FL office.

Position Profile

This Senior Transportation Planner position is primarily responsible for delivering transportation planning, traffic simulation and operations analysis, PD&E and NEPA studies for FDOT and local government agencies and assisting in business development activities. A Day in Life of a Senior Transportation Planner at Hanson

A senior transportation planner is responsible for performing a broad range of routine technical transportation planning research and analysis tasks and providing sound recommendations to support decision making.

Here is a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

  • Traffic development using existing data and forecasted travel demand volumes.
  • Perform operational analysis for all roadway elements.
  • Concept development using modeling data, geometric design, and safety engineering.
  • Deliver traffic engineering and transportation planning studies on time and within budget.
  • Continued technical advancement of Hanson's transportation and engineering practice.
  • Assist with transportation planning analyses, transportation studies, and long- and short-range plan development using various planning tools and geographic information systems (GIS).
  • Compose proposals for transportation planning and traffic engineering projects.
  • Review transportation related zoning and comprehensive land use plan amendment applications and associated documents submitted by land developers, land use planning and engineering professionals including Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT)staff and communicate required application revisions to project applicants and/or lead planners.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What We are Looking For

We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

Technical Skills:

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point and Teams.
  • Familiar with all operational analysis tools and software such as Highway Capacity Software, Synchro and Vissim, Cube, TransCAD, and ArcGIS Pro.
  • Designing intersections and interchanges using the latest version of MicroStation.

Soft Skills:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with engineers, land use planners, land developers, attorneys, contractors, members of the public, and others.
  • Communicate effectively in a clear and concise manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Guide other employees in transportation planning analysis and studies.
  • Local, state, and federal planning and development principles and regulations related to land development.
  • Engineering principles and practices applied in land use planning and zoning reviews, traffic engineering, transportation planning, and comprehensive regional planning.
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member to problem solve and learn new technical skills.
  • Must be able to collaborate remotely with colleagues in other offices.

Education/Experience:

  • A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in transportation planning, urban and regional planning, civil engineering, transportation engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in transportation planning or traffic engineering.
  • Florida AICP or Professional Engineer license required.
  • Prefer familiarity with planning and engineering references such as the ITE Trip Generation Manual, Highway Capacity Manual, and Florida Greenbook.
  • Excellent project team and client-facing communication skills.
