Job Description
REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Stable Attendant.

General Description
Performs maintenance work and riding instruction at a rental horse stable and farm animal exhibit at a county regional park.

Work involves participating in the routine care and maintenance of horses and farm animals including grooming animals, medication and treatment of injuries and illnesses, maintaining stalls, pastures, and fences, upkeep of farm animal exhibit area and security of animals. Leads group trail rides and/or conducts group riding lessons, handling rental of trail horses and pony rides, and educating the general public about animals and horses.

Works under close or general supervision according to set procedures.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires six (6) months maintenance and operation of horse stables/farms or closely related experience including six (6) months experience instructing beginning riders.

Special Certifications and Licenses
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida E Class Driver's License for duration of appointment.

Preferences
Must be able to work a flexible schedule that may include days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Assists with riding instruction, training horses, camps and leading trail rides for the public.

Performs maintenance work in a rental horse stable and farm animal exhibit area; maintains interior and exterior and related areas in a clean and orderly condition.

Assists in the routine care and maintenance of horses and farm animals including routine health care, administration of medication and treatment of injuries and illnesses as directed; maintains health records of horses and livestock animals.

Responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of tack and related equipment.

Assists in managing a rental horse stable and livestock animal exhibit area.

Assists with the implementation of various programs and procedures, to include, but not limited to farm and animal science programs provided to the general public.

May be required to collect payments from patrons/school groups related to educational farm field trips.

Performs related work as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 25 to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and over 50 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Involves routine and frequent exposure to animals/wildlife.
