Job Summary

The Housing Residential Experience Department is currently seeking a Student Building Assistant to join their team of professionals. Duties include:

  • Be a receptionist for the desk, serving as an information resource to callers, taking messages, and forwarding calls appropriately when a Student Desk Assistant is not present.
  • Appropriately utilize and maintain all logs provided at the desk.
  • Be a representative of the Department and University to students, staff, and guests.
  • Assist the Residence Experience Coordinator (REC) with program shopping for hall programs by accompanying the REC to different stores/businesses and picking up necessary supplies.
  • Depending on the need, assist in managing the building's occupancy board.
  • Depending on the need, managing the Residence Experience Coordinator's Outlook Calendar.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures of the residence hall.
  • Conduct key audits for the building utilizing Microsoft Excel or another comparable system.
  • Assist with managing the residence hall's programming budget by compiling and recording receipts.
  • Organize supplies and keep an inventory of the supplies that are in the office and front desk area.
  • Occasionally, contact residents to give reminders of meetings they have with the Residence Experience Coordinator (REC).
  • Enforce Housing & University policies, rules and regulations and provide documentation of policy violations to a supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and deemed necessary by the Residence Experience Coordinator (REC).

Minimum Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Student Building Assistant position, an individual must meet the following requirements:

  • Must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain a 2.5 cumulative and semester GPA for the duration of their employment
  • Be an enrolled student at FIU
  • Able to work during business hours of Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm
  • Must meet all eligibility requirements for employment, as stipulated by Florida International University
  • Must abide by all Housing & University rules and regulations

Student Disclosure
  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
Work Schedule
  • Hours vary based on the Building Assistant's availability but are not to exceed twenty hours per week. Building Assistants will work during the business hours of Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.
  • 20 hours a week

$15.50/hour
