The School of Architecture at Carnegie Mellon University invites applications for a year long, Adjunct Instructor position in the (BArch) for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025. The position would support the core studio teaching in the B.Arch program in its third and fourth year. The position includes teaching up to three courses, two studios and a seminar. All courses will be offered within the AY24/25 academic calendar: .

We are looking for an Adjunct Instructor to teach, as part of a team, upper level architectural design studios in our Bachelor of Architecture program. These studios, coordinated by full time faculty members, will follow a common syllabus focussed on integrated design and construction. The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of all aspects of the design process, especially the integration and representation of construction and HVAC systems. These comprehensive studios are the culmination of our required Praxis studio sequence.

Responsibilities for faculty in a Core studio include teaching studio sessions every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 - 4:50, meeting with the coordinator prior to the start of the semester and on a weekly basis during the semester, attending all scheduled studio reviews, conducting mid-semester/end of semester individual conferences with your students, participating in mid-semester/end of semester grade meetings and providing written comments for each student to your coordinator.

Qualifications

While we welcome all applications; preference will be given to those that address some combination of the following:

  • A terminal degree in Architecture (e.g., Bachelor and/or Master of Architecture)

  • At least 5 years of professional practice experience in architectural design

  • Architecture Licensure

University-level teaching experience-either full-time, adjunct, or visiting scholar-at the undergraduate or graduate levels.
